Dental applications for sleep apnea

Dental applications for sleep apnea are known to provide a success rate of over 90% if provided following a thorough diagnosis. Surgery for treatment is not always successful or long lasting and can have painful side effects. We can provide custom-built solutions to snoring Melbourne patients. This is because they not only regulate the person’s sleep patterns but also have a substantial impact on blood pressure, preventing heart disease, and helping with weight loss. We provide accurate sleep apnea consultation before moving on to fitting the device.

Do you think you have sleep apnea?

Self-Evaluation

Diagnosing sleep apnea can be complicated when precise results are required. A Sleep Scientist and Sleep Physician are required to create the final diagnosis.

However, to get you started, here is a common questionnaire that can help you to understand if you have signs of sleep apnea (OSA).

  1. (S) Do you snore loudly to the point of disturbing your partner or those around you?
  2. (T) Do you often feel tired, fatigued, or sleepy during the daytime?
  3. (O) Has anyone observed you stop breathing or choking/gasping during your sleep?
  4. (P) Are you diagnosed with or are being treated for High Blood Pressure?
  5. Calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI) Weight in Kg divided by height in meters squared. Ideally should be less than 25.
  6. Is your age greater than 50?
  7. Do you have a larger neck?
For male, shirt collar 43 cm or larger?
For female, shirt collar 41 cm or larger?

The following is a results key that can give you a general idea of your current situation:

  • Low-Risk OSA – you answered yes to 0-2 questions
  • Intermediate-Risk OSA – yes to 3-4 questions
  • High-Risk OSA – yes to 5-7 questions
